§“The AWS Standard is applicable globally to all organisations and industrial sectors, independent of their size and operational complexity, including agriculture, and non-profit sectors. The focus of the Standard is the operational site and its local water catchment, but with a broader goal to include indirect water use in the supply chain.”
Implementing the AWS Standard can bring about many benefits for a site. It supports them to:
- Understand water dependencies and impacts
- Mitigate operational and supply chain water risks
- Ensure responsible water procedures are in place
- Build relationships with local water-related stakeholders
- Address challenges shared with others in the catchment
The AWS Standard is built around five steps. Site owners implementing the Standard:
- Gather and understand water-related data
- Commit to water stewardship and create a water stewardship plan
- Implement their plan
- Evaluate their performance
- Communicate and disclose progress with stakeholders
